De Luna, on the other hand, came from kickboxing. “I used to kickbox but I like the more aggressive Savate. The history of kickboxing is different and it’s like a fraternity in the sport,” De Luna said. “After you fight someone in the ring. . . win or lose, you gain the respect one another, there’s more unity and respect among the fighters.” Three international bouts are slated for Friday’s events including the super heavyweight championship. The three fights feature Laredo fighters against fighters from Paris. Ironically, the Gateway City has ties to France just to spice things up a bit. The Laredoans participating are Ricardo “Tantric” Rodriguez, David “Opai” Martinez, Jaochim “Baby Face” Samano, Jorge “Gooffy” Garza, De Luna, Herrera and Cantu. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with fights getting under way at 8.

Done by French. On gala we already talked about. But there is always a problem when combining two techniques. Hand and leg techniques can be done separately or in combinations in shorter time. The same goes with stick fencing and kicks. Don't switch from one to another. Combine both techniques together in one move in one breathe in one begining and end.

Alternative to Olympics - Martial art games

But there are some potential breaks: control of olympic sports like judo (jujitsu, aikido, kendo, sumo), wrestling (sambo), WTF taekwondo (ITF taekwondo, karate), Boxing (kickboxing, muaythai, wu-shu).

By Vitaliy Svadkovskiy

2008 has come. A year of ginger rat by the Chinese calendar and a year of the Olympic Games in Peking...
The Olympic movement concern us mostly in the view of tendencies of evolution of sports, as a whole, and karate, as an integral part of the world athletic movement, in particular.
Both in 2008 and 2012, karate will not be represented at the Olympic Games. There is no prospect of its inclusion to the Olympic program until the 2020 Games.
At best, WKF karate or what will have remained of karate in this organization by that time will be represented at the 2020 Olympic Games. To indulge the IOC tastes, rules of fights were changed to make, as it then was declared, performance more entertaining. Now we can tell that initiators of those changes in rules achieved the opposite effect. Since then, WKF karate lost a lot in vividness of fights now reminding the Southern Korea version of taekwondo (which is an Olympic game). What use for the IOC in two sports that are absolutely poor eye-catchers?
It should be admitted that the IOC, to keep its monopoly of the global athletic movement, acts rather competently in respect to non-Olympic sports. The IOC understands that, sooner or later, the quantity of the malcontent will exceed the critical mass to put a question of reforming the Olympic movement. What is this if not probable lost status, job and prosperity of many sports bureaucrats? That is why the most troublesome are given with an Olympic status that is of small use because it does not give the right to participate in the Olympic Games. For example, WKF karate has such a status. From our point of view, it is rather a humiliating position. It reminds to the deprived that they are inferior (untermensch) but they are not forgotten. A smart bureaucratic trick to reduce the number of the malcontent and prevent revolution situations.
It is clear as a day to everyone but candidates themselves that these sports will never become Olympic.
Today one definite question is in the centre of attention of reasonable karate sportsmen. A large number of martial arts unrecognised by the IOC must unite in an alternative organization to manifest themselves to the world.
The first step has been already made. In April 2008, the 3rd World Games will be held in Bangkok under the aegis of the International Martial Games Committee (IMGC).
In the last year, the leading world karate organization – the World Karate Confederation (WKC) - became a member of the IMGC.
We hope that the IMGC has very good views for the future. This new movement will hardly parade its alternativeness to the IOC, especially as there is no need in it.
To avoid probable problems, the IMGC should not admit to its membership the IOC members or sporting federations having an Olympic status, such as judo, WKF karate and boxing. The formal reason of this is its disinclination to break up the Olympic movement. But the real reason is that these organizations are already burdened by the IOC bureaucrats of whom certainly no good will come. Besides, in the future, the IOC will be able, through its members, to take full control of the IMGC, which will, no doubt, prevent the martial arts evolution.
The IMGC should assume all the best of the IOC, for example, the principle of competitions organization
 once per four (better per three) years, to hold the International Martial Games.
 admit only certain number of sportsmen of each federation to participation at the Games according to results of recent championships held in the World and Europe. The IOC, for example, admits 100 sportsmen of each federation.
If there is an idea to unify karate rules within the IMGC, it must be recognized as inadmissible. In no events, rules of fights may be unified. Quite the contrary, each federation should be represented by its own rules, judges and sportsmen. A large global karate federation is independent imaging, understanding and interpretation of karate. Such diversity is the condition of the continuous evolution of martial arts.
Moreover, if new karate federations come to the IMGC, the process of changing rules will be endless. And rules unification may displease some candidates, which will prevent affluence of new members.
It is evident that, following the logics of the uniting process, independent kinds of sports should participate in the World Games: Muai Thai, Northern Korea taekwondo and, along with them, WKC karate, WKO karate etc. 100 sportsmen of each kind of martial arts.
All the worst of the IOC should be taken into consideration too, for example, principles of new members admission. Unlike the IOC, where admission of new members is regulated by biased members of the Olympic Meeting who do not want new rivals, unbiased criteria should be adopted for admission of new members, one of which is the quantity of participating countries of a candidate.
World karate federations applying to be admitted to the IMGC must be powerful organizations uniting not less than 25 (or more) countries. Besides, each participating country of such federation must hold its own national championships.
If a karate federation applying for the IMGC membership unites a less number of countries, conditions of participation of its sportsmen in the World Games must be different.
It is necessary to adopt a definite charter for members of the IMGC. Principles of fair sports fighting and safety of sportsmen must be the basis of it. For example, no international karate federation may be admitted as a new member if, at least in one of its member-countries, children's competitions with knock-out are allowed (for example, kyokushinkai karate in Russia).
The above are only pre-observations. The charter of the World Martial Arts Organization must be universal.
It may well be that these advices are rather premature. But if the International Martial Games Committee fails to unite all martial arts of the Globe, then another organization will, sooner or later, do it.

REPORT

Attendance : See list attached.

WELCOME & OPENING

GAISF President Hein Verbruggen welcomed all the participants. Three members of the new GAISF Council were present at the meeting – Antonio Espinos, President of WKF (Karate), Paul Hoglund, President of JJIF (Ju-jitsu), and Jan Fransoo, President of IKF (Korfball). The latter was attending as an observer. All the members were present except for the AIBA (Boxing) and IFS (Sumo).Mr Verbruggen reminded the participants that at the previous meeting in Brussels on 18 December, it had been agreed that a working group would be set up to study the implications of organising the Martial Arts Games (MAG), with the technical and financial aspects and a description of requirements and conditions, with input from the IOC. In this respect, Patrick van Campenhout, Stephan Fox and Christine Dominguez had met in Lausanne on 16 February 2007 together with Anthony Scanlon, Head of Games Services and Co-ordination at the IOC who had made a very useful presentation. Antonio Espinos had been unable to attend. A document had then been drafted outlining the different specifications for the Martial Arts Games.
GAISF MARTIAL ARTS GAMES DRAFT REVIEW
Mr Verbruggen invited Patrick van Campenhout to read out the different parts of the said document which referred to the items of the agenda. All comments from the participants would be welcome.
1. Event Owner

Mr Hoglund asked about the legal possibility of owning the MAG and proposed to call the event “GAISF Martial Arts Games” to avoid any problems. He also wanted to know how the MAG could be protected against the Games organised by the IMGC. Mr Verbruggen agreed that it might be wise to add a name and proposed to seek legal advice for name and rights, and to find out whether it was possible to do this according to the GAISF Statutes or if it were necessary to have a commercial entity. The IMGC issue would be broached later on in the meeting.
2. MA Games

Referring to the point that the Martial Arts IFs should agree to not organise any other major martial art events in the same year as the MAG, Mr van Campenhout explained that the idea was to ensure the participation of the best athletes.Mr Verbruggen stressed that this did not mean that World Championships should no longer take place. He reported that most of the IFs that participated in the Olympic Games maintained their World Championships nevertheless.Mr Verbruggen suggested holding the first MAG in 2010 and after that to decide whether it should be every 2 years or not. If it were to take place every 2 years, then Olympic years should be avoided. François Besson stressed that the Olympic Code and WADA Code should apply to the MAG.Mr Espinos raised the question about “IOC patronage” and “NOC support”. Mr Verbruggen underlined the fact that IOC patronage was more of an “honorary title” and that there would be no real IOC involvement. With regard to NOC support, this would be difficult to obtain the first year, but could be achieved in the future.Mr Espinos insisted on the fact that the MAG should be financially feasible and in order to achieve this, the top athletes must be present. In this respect, he would prefer that the MAG take place every 4 years, provided this was financially feasible. Mr Verbruggen explained that it would be necessary to find TV sponsors and the like. As to financial support, interest had already been shown by certain cities. Consequently, the IFs would not have to pay for everything.Mr Verbruggen declared that there would have to be a viable proposition. If the first event were a success, the following events would be easier, since sponsors would be more likely to contribute. For the first event it was necessary to negotiate a contract so that the local TV rights would be for the host city and the TV rights for the rest of the world for GAISF.
3. Cultural programme

Mr Verbruggen emphasised that this part of the event was essential because it would bring added value and put the event on a higher level.

4. Participation at the MA Games

Mr Hoglund commented that it would be better for each IF to be able to select competitors as they wished and not necessarily to organise a specific competition. Mr Besson explained that for the Olympic Games, each IF submitted its qualification system for each continent to the IOC. For this, his federation, the IJF (Judo) had to proceed to a quota system. It was also necessary to propose a calendar which would allow fair participation and also fair travel distances (so as to avoid financial discrimination). This calendar had to be prepared in co-operation with the IOC and submitted to the IOC. All the NOCs were then informed. This was a new concept.Mr Besson underlined the importance of having some indication of the number of participants. He explained that for the Olympic Games the figures were given.Mr Verbruggen suggested a maximum of 1,000 athletes. The number of disciplines would become more obvious after an initial questionnaire had been filled out.It was decided that Mr Besson would help with this and would prepare a questionnaire for the IFs.Mr Espinos pointed out the necessity of defining how many venues would be needed for the sports and how long each competition should run. This breakdown should be defined as soon as possible in order to be ready for the MAG in 2010.The IFs present were basically interested in participating.

5. Host City Selection Process

Mr Verbruggen confirmed that different cities would be asked to bid for the 1st MAG in 2010. He reported that to date Bangkok, Moscow and Canada had expressed interest.(Michel Dusson had to leave the meeting at this point and informed Mr Verbruggen that Mr Besson would represent him.)Mr Falsoni asked if it were possible to contact other cities for hosting the MAG and when the final date for bidding was. Mr Verbruggen explained that the tender was not yet open, so there were no specifications or deadlines so far. He agreed that it would be important to have some publicity for the MAG within the IFs in order to encourage participation. The deadline should be set quickly since it was not reasonable to wait until the next plenary session to do this.Mr Verbruggen proposed Mr Espinos to be responsible for the MAG within the Council and that he would start things moving quickly with the help of Mr Hoglund. Mr Espinos accepted this responsibility with pleasure. He drew attention to the fact that if it were not possible to guarantee arrangements in time it would be preferable to postpone the event for another year.Mr Falsoni reminded the members that in Brussels the decision had been to aim for excellence. Mr Verbruggen corroborated this and reported that the IOC Executive Board had been informed and that the IOC gave its full support to the event.

6. Responsibilities of the Host City

Mr Besson stressed the importance of visas and that the host city should guarantee that visas would be issued for all countries wishing to take part. He reported that in 1977, Chinese Taipei had been unable to obtain visas for the IJF World Championships in Spain and that as a result the event had had to be cancelled. It would therefore be better to change “facilitate the issue of entrance visa…” into “to guarantee …”David Rudman said that visa access was not guaranteed.Mr Verbruggen insisted that it was a crucial point and that the host city MUST guarantee this. It was possible that certain individuals could be refused access because they appeared on Interpol’s list and the country could refuse entry, but otherwise access should definitely be guaranteed.Mr Besson suggested that after the point “to arrange for insurance against liability claims and the damages of non-performance”, it should be added in brackets that “the National Federations were responsible for their athletes and officials.”

7. Travelling Expenses

Mr Verbruggen remarked that he knew from experience that it was possible to obtain a lot from host cities, including arrangements with airlines, etc.He suggested adding in the bidding book that travelling expenses would be borne by the host city. Therefore it was important to select the best top athletes to limit the costs for the host city.Mr Espinos reminded the participants that at the meeting in December he had asked how many competitors from each IF were likely to take part in the MAG. A key point was to be able to inform the host city how many participants would be present. It was therefore important that the delegations should be more homogeneous. There should be a limited number in each delegation so as to reduce the costs, consequently making it more feasible for the host city to cover them. He believed that the 60 best athletes in the world for each sport would be enough to give prestige to the MAG and sell TV rights.August Dragt agreed and went then on to ask about the expenses incurred for the seminars and cultural programme.Mr Verbruggen explained that for SportAccord, for example, the majority of the contributions consisted of value in kind – cheap hotel rooms, conference rooms etc. - for a total value of 3 million USD. The seminars would make the MAG a very special event and if high quality were ensured then the host cities would be prepared to pay.PVC stressed the importance of knowing the size of the delegation for the conditions and requirements (cahier des charges).

NEXT PLENARY SESSION

A proposal had been made by IFMA to hold the next plenary session in Bangkok from 3 to 5 December at the same time as the celebrations for the King of Thailand’s 80th birthday. The proposal was accepted and the meeting was definitely fixed for 5 December.Satchye Tapsuwan thanked all the members and hoped they would enjoy the hospitality in Bangkok.Mr van Campenhout felt that it was a good idea to hold each plenary session either at an NOC headquarters (as in Brussels) or during a major Martial Arts event.

MISCELLANEOUS

As regards the IMGC and Ung Chang, Mr Verbruggen reported that he had originally scheduled meetings with Ung Chang and the IMGC president during SportAccord, but that these had not taken place. Mr Fox believed that the IMGC intended to organise Games in 2008 but Hein Verbruggen assured the IFs that there was nothing to worry about.Mr Hoglund drew attention to the fact that these people were continuing to misuse the GAISF name. He felt that this propaganda could be harmful to GAISF.Mr Verbruggen reminded everybody that Ung Chang was an IOC member, which explained why Dr Rogge had written him a “nice” letter. However he was confident that the IMGC Games would go no further than North Korea. Mr Espinos agreed that this matter created confusion within the National Federations and that it was difficult for them to identify who was who.Mr Verbruggen would keep the members informed about his next discussions with Mr Chang as to the IMGC.

CLOSING

Mr Verbruggen thanked the Working Group for the drafting of this document and the work involved. He went on to thank the members for their presence and wished everybody success in their respective events. He then closed the meeting.

Master of science - SAVATE doctor

Good promotion of sport Muay Thai in IFMA:
Source: http://www.ifmamuaythai.org/HTML/08_070608_PhDMuaythai.html

Rajabhat University in cooperation with the royal Thai government opened a 3-year university course to earn its students a doctorate in the Philosophy of Muaythai. Muaythai as a whole, including Muay Boran and Krabee-Krabong is more than just a martial art. It is a science, culture and a very intelligent fighting form.
The history of Muaythai goes back over a thousand years and as the past is very important, so is the future. Taking Muaythai to an academic level has been in planning for many years. This plan is now in full reality as the first 15 participants are just completing their first year of study. The course will also be open in the near future for foreigners.
Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan, General Secretary of the WMC, president of IFMA and former governer of the sport authority of Thailand who also holds a PhD in Physical Education and Sports Management, is one of the lecturers in this course. His deep understanding of sport and his experience in both national and international sport development makes him a natural choice. Stephan Fox, Vice President of WMC and General Secretary of IFMA was also one of the guest lecturers, bringing his expertise in his work of taking Muaythai towards international recognition.
Muaythai with no doubt has a great future both as a competition sport and as an art form. Inclusion in GAISF under IFMA has made Muaythai a member of the Olympic family. Muaythai has been included in the World Sports For All Games under patronage of the IOC.
The WMC, set up under the directive of the royal Thai government is at the forefront of making professional Muaythai safe and has over 130 member countries.
The doctor of philosophy in Muaythai will be a firm partner with a deep understanding of both the theoretical and practical understanding of both the art and sport of Muaythai. The world is eagerly awaiting the graduation of the first 15 scholars who will earn a doctorate in the philosophy of Muaythai.

Should savate just look all the good actions of other sports or will make something similar?

If karate and taekwondo has a practice of forms and katas on the same tournament - why FIS - don't include also Canne de Combat on Assaut tournaments. At this moment - there are not so much canne competitors and assaut tournament has a lot of place to do just one more thing in the same Hall. And I forgot also on promotion - many FIS members don't know nothing about canne - and that is said.

Weight or height categories

Would you like to play Don Kihot and Sancho Pansa game?
For assaut - light contact it would be easier, because the power of kick or punch is not important. On your training all people are sorted by height not by weight, because you don't want to train with smaller ones or vice versa.
Effect on health would be that everybody should take care of his ideal weight at his natural height. Heavier ones would tend to loose weight and slimmer ones to gain it.
And important thing: Ones officially measured - always the same height. No weighing procedures anymore.

The executive of big companies, the liberal professional and the general public are searching more and more for ways to relieve tension, whilst improving their general health, and boxing is one of the most common strategies utilized.
A public minority has the idea that boxing is a ‘violent’ sport, however, this is starting to change through Olympic boxing, thanks to its extensive form of rotection.
It is well-known that the preoccupation of people with high degrees of competitiveness and professional responsibility would like to practise boxing, without suffering physical damage to their esthetic, as well as their general, well-being.
It is wise to point out that the age group that has looked for this option is getting higher by the day, between 35-70 years. Older people practising this sport do exist, with the advent of the medical release.
These days, women have also been submitted to the same conditions of work and stress; and consequently have found pleasure in the practise of boxing.
From the orthopedics stand-point, it is important to have a good warm-up, around 15 to 20 minutes, with a prolonged session, around 20 to 30 minutes, for the stretching and flexibility exercises, taking into consideration that a greater stiffness in the tendons and muscles exists with people of a more advanced age, especially at the
beginning of the session. In this initial stage it is important to rehearse the
moves that relate to the sport, especially for those who have never practised boxing; such as swirls, punches and torso movements, etc.
These movements gradually gain in intensity, speed and strength, always considering the age and technical level of each practitioner.

This practice must be done with gloves, which for this style should be bigger, from 15 to 17 ounces, and softer than the norm and are already available on the market.
The head protector, softer and offering more protection, will be used in
any activity that involves contact with an opponent. The shoes, preferably, will be specific to boxing, however the use of a sneaker with good shock absorption is also satisfactory.
From the physiological standpoint, those interested in teaching these classes should consider the following factors: Warm-up boxing exercises should be the priority with particular focus on the muscle group, therefore the first phase should have emphasis
on the muscular strength and resistance with exercises that are complimentary to boxing.
The level of conditioning and physical capabilities of the student should be considered at the start of the activity. The class should be 30 to 45 minutes for beginners and from 45 to 60 minutes for advanced students, taking into consideration it is a class geared for any age group and level of training, with no set age group, always under surveillance and observation of a physical education professional.
The objectives of this class are to: alleviate stress, increase the amount of calories burnt, change physical composition, increase strength and muscular mass, socialize and provide an outlet for the natural competitiveness of people.
As a competitive format, according to age, it is suggested:
l Under 35 years - Four rounds of two minutes with one minute of rest.
l 35 to 45 years - Four rounds of one minute 30 seconds with one minute of rest.
l 45 to 50 years - Four rounds of one minute with one minute 30 seconds of rest.
l 50 to 60 years - Three rounds of one minute with one minute 30 seconds of rest.
l 60 to 70 years - Three rounds of one minute with two minutes of rest.
l Above 70 years - Three rounds of 45 seconds with two minutes of rest.
Depending on the degree of activity and training time there are exceptions in which athletes of a higher age group can practice in a lower age group. There are four basic categories matching weight and degree of training, with the age group:
Light - below 60 kg.
Medium - from 61 to 75 kg.
Medium Heavy - from 76 to 85 kg.
Heavy - above 86 kg.
Consideration must be taken of the number of participants that exist. It is worthwhile mentioning that pre-existent pathological conditions should be taken into account, without the need to forbid the practice if it is supervised by a sport doctor or specialist. However, due to this, a physical and medical evaluation has to be made.

Interesting document and very useful for all countries in the world who wants to proove that savate is joined AGFIS through FISU and that savate is a serious sport.

French championships 1995 - Canne de combat

Would now .... in 21st century ....technology change this beautiful art with special clothes - electricity and touch detectors?

Presenting - training of Sebastien Ramos

Excellent static workout with pads and focus mitts for hands. We rarely see that kind of intensive hand training in savate wit a lot of good body and head "esquives".
Buddy is Wilfried Martin from Limoges (doing also savate forme and is in the team of Sanda San- shou kung fu)

R.Lemarechal vs. D.Jean Burel - assaut

You can find some good moves, technique is not superior, but you can see that they are experienced fighters.

Amazon girls and ADAC

http://www.adacfrance.com

If I have to choose grappling with man or a woman, I will decide for the last.
No I am not intolerant, but right and correct decisions of ADAC fits in 21st century.
Men are becoming observers (voyeurs) and from time to time they want to touch themselves on the ground and call that mixed martial weaponry. Of course - yes.
Women wants more than just always the same aerobics in 1001 variations. They want to put out all aggression - from childhood good girl to nice and smiling wife. So...grappling with a girl or a woman with all those feminine punches is exciting for both - instructor and opponent.

Mameli savateurs are the best in Italy

Now I can say you for sure, Mamelis are the best in Italy. Look Alfredo Genchi (1973). His brilliant moving, precision and intelligent decisions in right timing and moment. And I didn't forget to mention also his club friend Andrea Vagge.

And finally play of the game is over and ...

...it is very clear why some people didn't want to make popular CHAUSS FIGHT.
It was shoot boxing, and Bruno Rinaldi shows it against Turkish fighter (compete for Mario Panza Gym).

And it started like this - without shoes: Bruno Rinaldi Shoot boxing.

And in Italian kickboxing federation FIKB (WAKO) you can see the sector of this sport:
http://www.fikb.it/it/InfoPage.aspx?Ctn=82272&Mn=113

Bruno Rinaldi KO 1st round in SHOOT BOXING - SAP (kickboxing equipmet company) trophy in Collegno italy (against fighter in integral),

And clasical SHOOTBOXING:

And the idea is an old one:
Lee Hasdell vs. Scott Dobbs (USA). Oktagon Shootboxing Milan, 1996
First Round

Lee Hasdell vs. Paulo Di Clemente in the Semi Final
First Round

Lee Hasdell vs.Andre Mannaart
Second Round

I hope that there won't be two savate styles in near future like it is thai-kickboxing and muay thai. That would be very hard for joining AGFIS. And who knows? Plans are plans...

Judge should have respect...

Big authority in the ring should be main judge. In this case coversation and big development of western democracy could be seen in the ring. Yes - it is Europe. EU I mean.

Dealing with the Japanese too you know in dealing with that stuff. They have no real sanctioning body. There’s no athletic board overseeing them or signing judges or any of that kind of stuff. You know they can do whatever they want over there and they often do.

And my answer is like in BoneyM song - when at the end of a song named "Rasputin" singer ends with the words....AH ...THAT RUSSIANS...

Oum, le dauphin blanc (Oum, the white dolphin) - intro

Still my favourite one. Fighter should not be an angry animal with sad childhood.

Savate in hungary is a compact group of people. Being in K1, mainly all savate tournaments and as you see from their website http://www.savate.hu also in low kick kickboxing tournament in Dunaföldvár. But of course - loyal to savate as they shows it with integral dress. Savate patriotism as we should say it.

AGFIS SportAccord - 2008 and MARTIADES 2010

Did you see our logo among other International sports federations?

During the Sportaccord, there was a plenary session of the Martial Arts Games (MAG) during which the 13 international federations taking part in the project decided a new name for their first event which will take place in 2010: THE MARTIADES. Reason is that unfortunately other irresponsible people have already misused the name. To avoid being confused with such an organization, they unanimously decided for the new one, also because boxing and wrestling (which are part of the program) are not "martial arts". And Savate is also not martial art - but is not on the list of MARTIADES...Why?

A town in China will probably host first event (rumours talk about Macau or Bejing itself!) which will take into consideration only an élite of competitors, really the "best of the best". The event, to grant media appeal, will guarantee a level of excellency, like the Olympics.

Next THE MARTIADES plenary session will be in Moscow (Russia) on next December 14th. On that day, we will know for sure the town which will have the privilege of hosting for fighting sorts most important event in history.
