SportAccord Combat Games NEWS - 30th October 2009

IOC Patronage

SportAccord is proud to announce that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has granted its patronage to the 2010 SportAccord Combat Games. SportAccord is grateful to the IOC and its President, Dr. Jacques Rogge, for their support and for their trust in this new multi-sport event.
Beijing Organising Committee
In August 2010, Beijing will welcome more than 1000 athletes and 500 officials for the SportAccord 2010 Combat Games. In the Chinese capital, it is the Beijing Organising Committee (BOC) that will carry out the 2010 SportAccord Combat Games operations. The BOC is composed of 5 departments and 1 general office with 30 staff in total, working on the day-to-day event’s preparation.
In addition to the operation work, the BOC has started the promotion of the 2010 Combat Games. They launched last September their global marketing plan. A design campaign, opened to the public, was successfully organised for the emblem and mascot of the 2010 SportAccord Combat Games. This campaign has not only collected excellent ideas from the public, but also created public enthusiasm to associate with the event. SportAccord and Beijing are looking forwards to revealing the event’s emblem and mascot shortly.
Another step in the event promotion was also taken with the appointment of Tom Group to develop the official website of the 2010 SportAccord Combat Games. The Tom Group is a leading media company in the Greater China area, enjoying wide popularity in Chinese sport communities. A dedicated website for the 2010 SportAccord Combat Games will be launched next month.
Training Venue
After announcing the competition venues last month, SportAccord is pleased to conclude the venue selection with the designation of the Capital Institute of Physical Education Gymnasiums as training venue for the 2010 Combat Games. Also used as a training venue for Judo and Taekwondo during the 2008 Olympic Games, it offers standards of top international level.
Plenary Session
Next 15 November in Lausanne, SportAccord is organising a plenary session for the 13 IF participating in the SportAccord Combat Games, on the occasion of the IF Forum. SportAccord will welcome a delegation of the Beijing Organising Committee who will provide an event preparation update. It will also be the occasion for the SportAccord Combat Games Committee to discuss with the IF items such as the athletes’ qualification and registration, the competition schedule, equipment and event services among others.
