About Italian Savate: Luigi Monticelli Obizzi 1863 - 1946

The Marquis Luigi Monticelli Obizzi in 1890 founded the Club Atletico Milanese, which soon became the most renowned weightlifting society in Italy. A very young Monticelli, was a successful swimmer, gymnast, fencer and canoeist. At the age of 20, whilst undertaking naval studies in Genoa, he began to train with weights and in 1885, having returned to Milan, he enrolled in the Forza e Coraggio. Later, during his frequent trips abroad, he also took up French boxing (savate). In 1896 he came 2nd in an International competition in Amsterdam behind the German Johannes Schneider, who weighed 113 kg against Monticelli’s 71 kg. In the Italian Weightlifting Championships he came 3rd in 1897 and 1900, 2nd in 1901 and 1902.
On the initiative of the Marquis, on May 2nd 1897 the first National Championship was disputed in Milan, with a single category: the winner was Enrico Scuri from Pavia, who won 5 titles and one second place ranking in six years, defeated only by the Roman Stanislao Ruggeri in 1900. Scuri’s last success was in 1902 in his hometown, where he beat Monticelli.
The categories then became three, as well as the “absolute” title, beginning from the 1907 Championship: light weights, up to 70 kg; medium weights, up to 80 kg; heavy weights, above 80 kg. This innovation obviously brought about a considerable increase in the number of competitors.
On April 4th 1899, the first International weightlifting competition in Italy (3rd World Championship according to IWF) was held in the Dal Verme theatre in Milan.
It was organised by the Club Atletico Milanese, sponsored by La Gazzetta dello Sport, and won by the Cossack Sergei Elisseev ahead of German Johannes Rödl and our own Scuri.
In 1902 Monticelli Obizzi believed that the moment had come for weightlifting and Graeco-Roman wrestling to break away from the Gymnastic Federation and to set up an independent
body. Supported by Aristide Muggiani and Cesare Vigano, on January 18th, the Federazione Atletica Italiana was founded in Milan and Obizzi was the effective President up to March 1911 and Honorary President from December 1911.
His successors were Mario Cermenati from 1911 to 1913 (seat in Rome), Silvio Brigatti from 1913 to 1915 (seat in Milan), Luigi Silvio Ugo from 1915 to 1925 (seat in Genoa), Antonio Turri, Pietro Locatelli and Luigi Torretta from 1925 to 1927 (seat in Milan). In 1929, under the presidency of Augusto Turati, the seat was transferred definitively to Rome. The following were the Presidents of the Federation: Riccardo Barisonzo from 1930 to 1941, Giovanni Valente
from 1941 to 1943, Giorgio Giubilo from 1946 to 1952, Valente once again from 1952 to 1964, Carlo Zanelli from 1967 to 1981, and then Matteo Pellicone was elected.
The Federation concentrated on weightlifting, Graeco-Roman wrestling, catch-as-catch-can, judo and karate, and it changed its name various times: in 1933 it became Federazione Italiana Atletica Pesante (FIAP), in 1974 Federazione Italiana Lotta Pesi Judo (FILPJ), in 1994 Federazione Italiana Lotta Pesi Judo Karate (FILPJK). In 2000 it split to become Federazione Italiana Judo Lotta Karate e Arti Marziali (FIJLKAM), presided by Pellicone, and Federazione Italiana Pesistica e Cultura Fisica (FIPCF), presided by Andrea Umili.

Former Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader arrested in Austria

http://www.france24.com/en/20101210-former-croatian-prime-minister-sanader-arrested-austria-corruption

Austrian police arrested former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader Friday after a Zagreb court issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with an anti-corruption probe. Sanader resigned from office in 2009 and fled Croatia after losing immunity.

REUTERS - Former Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader, wanted in connection with an anti-corruption probe, was arrested in Austria on Friday, Croatian state television and the Austrian interior ministry said.
Sanader left the country on Thursday shortly before parliament lifted his immunity from prosecution. Prosecutors suspect him of being behind a plan to create slush funds for his conservative HDZ party during his 2004-09 tenure in power.
Sanader denies the accusations, saying they were politically motivated. He is the highest Croatian official investigated for corruption to date.
Sanader was taken into custody in Salzburg province, Austrian interior ministry spokesman Alexander Marakovits said. "He will go to the Salzburg provincial court and then the authorities will have to decide what will happen with him in the next days or the next weeks," he said.
Marakovits said Austria acted after receiving an international arrest warrant for Sanader. "Our police tried to find him and we located him on the highway this afternoon."
Analysts said legal action against the man who dominated local political life for a decade would help Zagreb's bid for European Union membership. Croatia hopes to conclude EU entry talks next year, but before that it has to convince Brussels of its determination to stamp out corruption.
Sanader resigned unexpectedly and with no explanation in July 2009. His ruling HDZ party expelled him in January.
In September, police arrested the chief of the national customs service, Mladen Barisic, a close friend of Sanader and party treasurer for the HDZ.

Montenegro's Prime Minister Djukanovic Resigns

Montenegro cigaretes and so called savate goodbye. Did anybody mentioned Vuk Rajkovic, his close friend?

(AP) PODGORICA, Montenegro (AP) - Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, who has led Montenegro for almost 20 years, resigned abruptly Tuesday but insisted it was not due to international pressure over his alleged criminal past.

Opposition parties swiftly called for new elections, claiming Djukanovic resigned under pressure.

Djukanovic, 49, led Montenegro through the turmoil of the 1990s Balkan wars and the postwar quest for independence from Serbia, which was finalized in a referendum in 2006. He said he is stepping down because he has fulfilled his task of bringing Montenegro closer to membership in the European Union and NATO.

"I have been in power for a very long two decades," Djukanovic told a press conference. "My decision is not sudden or hasty ... and it was not made under pressure."

Djukanovic said he will remain at the helm of his ruling Democratic Party of Socialists and proposed a close ally, Finance Minister Igor Luksic, as his successor. The proposal has to be approved by parliament.

Tuesday's announcement comes only days after Montenegro formally became the candidate for membership in the EU, a major step toward its goal of joining the 27-nation bloc.

Italian authorities have in the past investigated Djukanovic for allegedly being part of a Balkan smuggling ring in the 1990s that brought cigarettes on motorboats into Italy from across the Adriatic. Italian prosecutors dropped the probe in 2009 because of Djukanovic's diplomatic immunity.

He has vehemently denied the accusations, but said the cigarette smuggling helped Montenegro survive international sanctions imposed on the regime of late Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic for fomenting the wars in the Balkans.

"I'm leaving the post with a perfectly clear conscience, without fear of any legal action against me," he said Tuesday. "Everything I have done can be judged by the public and history."

The tiny Adriatic nation of 670,000 people was a rare former Yugoslav republic that split peacefully from Belgrade, avoiding bloodshed that followed similar moves by Croatia, Bosnia or Kosovo. Montenegro has since introduced pro-Western reforms and pledged to root out the corruption that flourished during the war years.

Djukanovic - once Milosevic's close ally turned a bitter foe - became the youngest prime minister in Europe at the age of 29 in 1991. He was elected Montenegro's president in 1998, before again assuming the premier's job in 2002. He left in 2006, saying he has accomplished his task of leading Montenegro to independence, but came back and was elected premier for the fifth time in 2008.

He played a key role in destabilizing Milosevic's dictatorial regime by hosting exiled Serbian opposition leaders and other anti-Milosevic activists in the late 1990s.

Election monitors from Serbia who were trained by Western experts in Montenegro were instrumental in uncovering massive vote rigging in Serbia's presidential elections in 2000, which led to huge public protests and to Milosevic's ouster from office.

Funny report of mighty Croatian savate

http://www.profightstore.com/novosti/predrag-simunec-viceprvak-europe/6507.aspx

Predrag Simunec (Omegy gym Kneginec) vs. Hakim Abdelaoui. Predrag lost because of many Hakim's headbuts. What?
Valentina Balazinec won 1st place on a International kickboxing cup in Rijeka in a kickboxing discipline - Low kick (-52 kg). And there were 600 competitors. Can you imagine? ... Hardly.

On Sunday there was national assaut chmapionship in assaut savate discipline - women categories - senior and junior class. And Valentina was second.

Funny story? It is.

Big test for Italian savate and FIS international federation of savate

Fred Royers (born 1955, Netherland) confirmed his presence on a National technical stage (22th to 25th of April, Waldorf Palace, Cattolica, instructors, trainers, judges) of Italian kickboxing federation (FIKB) aka (WAKO).
But there will be also - "see birdy" - Tomaz Barada ITF taekwondo (Slovenia) with his master Wim Bos (Netherland of course).

Gilles Le Digou was also invited.

But Gilles (FIS) recognize only FISA savate and not FIKB savate activities.

Now we will watch, wait and observe the reaction of FIS.

Will simpaties with kickboxing lasts also through FISA and FIKB relations like in old days? We hope not.

12th WFC - Slovenia, Europe

In a country where no boxing ring is used for training in the capital city of Ljubljana for amateur boxers and other fighters, a group of "heavy" people promote this kind of tournament. Some years ago we saw also Luka Bastinac here, savate judge and the "heavy" driver of Serbian savate team. But Luka also coordinate MMA in Voyvodina, Serbia.
While amateurs works everyday in small gyms, the so called professionals are awarded with "Proteins from Poland". And Slovenia is a criminal, banana republic since 1991 when the war in Jugoslavia began.

While Croatian savate federation is one of the strongest savate forces in the world (combat of course), their federation is just provisional member of Croatian Olympic Committee.
On the other hand we have Wu shu kung fu federation of Croatia which nobody these years didn't mention at all. Why? Because it is a new one.
New one but imediately recognised by Croatian Olympic Committee, what Savate federation of Croatia - the strongest in savate didn't succed in all these years?

World Combat Games 2013 with SAVATE - french boxing and canne de combat

The first planning meeting for the 2013 World Combat Games took place in Lausanne in November. I am pleased to inform you that Savate has been included in the planning for the Games. The vision for the Games is for a “Festival Atmosphere”, with the competition taking in place in 4 venues, over 8 days.
A competition schedule will be designed to group together sports with similar technical requirements (e.g. for rings or mats) and to allow each sport to gain “Prime-time” media exposure.

The FISav Competitions Commission will propose selection criteria for athletes interested in competing in the Games. SportAccord asks for a minimum of 8 high level athletes per category, coming from a wide range of countries, and for a good balance between male and female categories. Qualification events must be completed 3 months before the start of the Games.

SportAccord is encouraging the International Federations to include additional disciplines, so we may be able to include Canne de Combat. There will be a cultural programme to reflect the ancient traditions and values of the participating sports and their contribution to society. There will also be an Ambassador Program, which will be launched in 2012. The Ambassadors are seen as symbols of their sport; they participate in various activities during the eight days of competitions and promote the Combat Games and the martial arts to the public.

For more information about the 2010 Combat Games in Beijing have a look at: www.worldcombatgames.com. The next planning meeting will take place in London, in April 2011

FISU «City Events» in Brussels

Julie Gabriel - quite and 24 hours per day working FIS "machine" about University savate. Please read.
More than 400 delegates, including the Fédération Internationale de Savate visited Brussels in November (17th-19th) for the first edition of the international conference "City Events". Organized by FISU and partners, from the perspective of the next Universiades, the theme of the conference this year was “From Sport Event to Citywide”. With this initiative, FISU wished to highlight the international scope of the Universiades, enhancing the reputation and image of the host cities and the economic and cultural aspects beyond the sport events.
The testimonies given by the national and international representatives about sporting events in various disciplines, as well as feedback from the public institutions and sports marketing firms, showed the cultural and economic value of sport, and particularly university sport, in these times. Is it necessary to point out the huge publicity surrounding the allocation of the FIFA World Cup..?
It was interesting to observe the way the media and promotion enhances the image of the host cities, but equally, thinking about Savate, the potential for an increase in international recognition.
The 2013 Universiades will be held in Russia, in the city of Kasan - a small city of 100,000 inhabitants – whose representatives showed an interest in the participation of Savate. It is possible, however, that there could be a clash of dates with the SportAccord Combat Games due to take place in the same country.
South Korea will host the 2015 Universiades in Gwangiu. The members of the Korean delegation, although surprised by my approach, seemed rather curious and very receptive to the idea of including Savate in their games… And, after all, why not launch a bridge head towards Asia via the "The Land of the morning calm" and Taekwondo?!

We are all friends. We all love each other. There is love and only unconditional love. If we wouldn't see strange war beetwen FIS and WAKO - FIKB about savate in Italy, we would believe that there are opponents, enemies, different oppinions and so on. But now the BIG game is getting obvious and also the biggest dummies see it clearly.
